Charles Johnson III passed away on March 27, 2020.
He was a man of family and community. Charles and his wife Kay were the first recipients of the black and gold award for most dedicated fans at Warren Central. Mr Johnson, 79, was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and later contracted the COVID19 virus. He gave countless hours over the years giving back to the students of Warren Central High School. He became a Warren Central Dad when his youngest daughter attended high school. He continued with the program long after she graduated. He also went on to serve on many committees and volunteered for many activities. His favorite time was attending sporting events with his wife, Kay. They loved supporting their Warriors. It didn’t matter the weather or his health, he rarely missed a Warren Central sporting event.
In honor of her father, Cheryl Newson and her husband Jared Newson would like to continue giving back in his name. This scholarship fund will be titled the Charles Johnson Scholarship. It will be given to two seniors at Warren Central High School starting this next coming school year. Their hope is to grow this scholarship to other schools around Indianapolis, but always focusing on where his heart was, with Warren Central.
An announcement will be posted this fall on how to apply for this scholarship.
